World’s Best Chefs Meet in Modena to Discuss “How to Transform Society Through Gastronomy”

06 June 2018

The Basque Culinary Center will hold the VIII annual meeting of its international council – made up of some of the world’s most influential chefs- on July 24th.  It will be hosted by chef Massimo Bottura in his hometown of Modena in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. Together with chefs, artists, writers, filmakers and scientists, Massimo Bottura the Basque Culinary Center and the Basque Government have organized a symposium about the power of ideas, the strength of culture, the impact of science, the influence of art, and the new ways of connecting people through gastronomy.

Renowned chefs such as Michael Bras (France), Joan Roca (Spain), Andoni Luis Aduriz (Spain), Gastón Acurio (Peru), Dominique Crenn (USA), and Yoshihiro Narisawa (Japan) will join speakers from diverse disciplines to address how gastronomy has become part of a social movement. During this occasion, the winner of the Basque Culinary World Prize, an award created by the Basque Culinary Center and the Basque Government for chefs who transform society through gastronomy, will be announced.

Among the speakers, there will be the French artist JR, founder of a global participatory art project, the Inside Out Project, which transforms stories of personal identity into public works of art; David Gelb, the American director of Chef’s Table, a celebrated Netflix series about the culinary arts; American journalist and editor Ruth Reichl; Ilse Crawford, the British designer and creative director of Studio Ilse; and Bee Wilson, a British food historian.

The symposium will be held at the Collegio San Carlo in Modena, Italy from 9 am to 5:00 pm.  Guests must register in advance at the Basque Culinary Center’s website: www.bculinary.com
